What we collect
Nothing personal. To play, you only type a nickname. We don't ask for your email, your real name or your location, and you don't need an account.
While a game is running, the server keeps your nickname, your score and a small random player token on your phone, so you can rejoin if your connection drops. Rooms are deleted after 2 hours without activity.
Sharing
When you share a room's invite link, apps like WhatsApp show a preview with the host's nickname and the room code. A shared Daily Word link shows your score in its preview. The share buttons are plain links: WhatsApp, Facebook, X and LinkedIn only open, and only see what you share, when you tap them. No social media scripts run on our pages.
Installing the app
If you add the game to your home screen, your device keeps a copy of the game's own files (styles, scripts and pictures) so it can open quickly and show a message when you're offline. We only count how many times it's installed, nothing about you or your device.
Daily Word
Your streaks are saved only on your own device, in your browser. When you finish your first go of the day, our server adds your number of words and points to today's totals, so it can show how you did against everyone ("you beat 73% of players"). Nothing about you is saved with them.
Friend groups
If you make or join a group on the Daily Word, we keep the group's name, the nickname you chose for it and your Daily results, so the others in the group can see them. Your browser keeps a random key that proves you're a member; we only store a scrambled version of it. Leaving a group deletes your nickname and results from it.
Children
Kids can play as guests. We don't create accounts for children under 13 and we don't sell anything to them.
Statistics
Our server counts how many times each page is opened and how many rooms, games and words there are each day. To know how many players come back, your browser remembers the date of your first and last visit, and once a day sends us those two dates. We only add them to daily totals, like "40 players who first came on Monday came back today". We also count how long the game is on screen (your browser remembers when you last played, to tell a new visit from the same one) and how often the share buttons are tapped. These are only totals: no cookies, no IP addresses and nothing that could identify you or your device. There are no ads and no advertising trackers.
Error reports
If the game crashes on your device, the page sends our server a short error report: the error message, the page it happened on (without the room code) and your browser's name and version. We use this to fix bugs. Our server passes it to Sentry, an error-tracking service, without your IP address.
Definitions
Word meanings come from Wiktionary (and the Free Dictionary API, which uses Wiktionary). Our server looks them up, so your device never contacts those services.
Selling data
We never sell or share anyone's data.
